# API uses

Vehicle Checks is a **structured inspection and defect management system** that sits alongside vehicle tracking.  The Vehicle Checks API allows developers to:

* Retrieve completed inspections
* Access defect and repair status
* Track compliance (pass, fail, moved without check)
* Integrate into maintenance systems, compliance dashboards, or partner platforms

In practice, it is used to:

* Synchronise defects into workshop or maintenance systems
* Generate compliance reports
* Feed inspection data into analytics, BI, or regulatory workflows
* Build customer or partner applications on top of MICHELIN Connected Fleet data

The API reflects the same data model used by SmarterDriver and MyConnectedFleet, providing a programmatic view of everything that happens in the digital vehicle check lifecycle.
