# API Uses

The Tachograph API is a secure public-facing REST API, provides reliable, programmatic structured integration layer that exposes **MICHELIN Connected Fleets** live and historical digital tachograph data directly to 3rd party applications.

The API delivers two complementary views of tachograph data:

| View           | Description                                                                                                     | Value                                                             |
| -------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Tacho Live     | real-time driver status and aggregated timers (remaining drive time, breaks, shifts, etc.) for operational use. | Retrieve the latest known driver status and remaining times       |
| Tacho Activity | detailed historical activity records for compliance, reporting and audit.                                       | Access historical tachograph activity for compliance and analysis |

The API is typically used to:

* Feed live driver hours and status into Transport Management Systems (TMS), dispatch tools and driver apps
* Archive tachograph data for regulatory and legal compliance
* Power customer or partner applications built on top of **MICHELIN Connected Fleets** compliance data
* Ensure that sensitive driver and compliance data is accessed only by authorised users and applications.
